The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently inviting tenders for the development of three segments within the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway Project.

Initiated in March 2010, the project’s estimated cost has presently risen to approximately Rs30bn ($428.67m), up from the initial estimate of Rs22bn ($314.13m).

The expressway will establish a crucial link between Dholera SIR and the proposed Dholera Airport, connecting the coastal regions of Bhavnagar and Amreli to Ahmedabad.

Interested parties are invited to submit their tenders by the mid-February deadline.

The total value of the construction contracts is Rs24.31bn ($347.41m). There is a possibility of another tender, approximately Rs6bn ($85.74m) in value, being announced shortly.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to lay the foundation stone of the project in February next year, with completion scheduled for 2022.

The Chief Secretary of Gujarat, Mr. Manoj Das, informed the publication that the mandatory 80% land acquisition for the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway has been successfully accomplished.

A further tender, valued at around Rs6bn ($85.74m), may be announced soon.

The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway Project received approval from the Cabinet Ministry in February of the previous year under the Bharatmala Project.

As part of this undertaking, a six-lane dual carriageway will be constructed, with provisions for potential expansion to ten lanes within Gujarat’s Dholera Smart City.

The expressway is designed to facilitate swift and convenient travel within the region, boasting a proposed design speed of 120 km/h.
